A farm girl from the Vosges talks her way into the service of the Dauphin, relieves Orléans and sees Charles crowned at Reims, then finds the Church, the English and her own side all wanting her out of the way. Shaw’s long preface argues that Joan was a Protestant and a nationalist before her time, and the epilogue brings her back to meet her judges after her canonization.
Written soon after Joan was made a saint in 1920, it is often called Shaw’s finest play. Download the free EPUB.
