Stephens retells ancient Irish legends in a playful, lyrical voice. Saint Finnian confronts an old pagan who turns out to have lived through Ireland’s history as man, stag, boar, hawk and salmon; the young Fionn grows up hidden in the woods before taking his place among the Fianna; and other heroes meet the people of the Sidhe.
