Firmian Stanislaus Siebenkäs, a learned and penniless advocate in the little town of Kuhschnappel, marries the gentle, practical Lenette and discovers how ill-matched they are. While he writes satirical ‘Devil’s Papers’ and battles debt and the petty society of the town, his double and friend Leibgeber proposes a bold way out. Jean Paul’s digressions, appendices and asides are part of the comedy.
A great German comic novel of marriage and poverty, best known as Siebenkäs, for readers who enjoy Sterne. Download the free EPUB.
