Thomas Wingfield of Norfolk swears to avenge his mother’s murder by a Spaniard and follows the killer across the sea. Shipwrecked on the Mexican coast, he is taken to the court of Montezuma, marked for sacrifice, and drawn into love with the princess Otomie as Cortés and his conquistadors close in on Tenochtitlan.
Haggard’s adventure of the Spanish conquest, full of Aztec spectacle; its view of the Indigenous Mexicans is very much that of 1893. Download the free EPUB.
