Starting from a mock legend of Olympus in need of a fool, Doran gathers anecdotes of professional jesters from antiquity to the modern courts. He covers female fools, the Oriental noodle, English minstrels and court fools such as Archie Armstrong, the jesters of France, Spain, Germany, Italy and the northern kingdoms, fools kept in priests’ houses, and princes who played their own fool.
An entertaining miscellany of wit and folly for readers who enjoy the odd corners of history. Download the free EPUB.
