Each chapter takes a familiar nursery rhyme and invents the story behind it: why the cow jumped over the moon, how Little Boy Blue came to blow his horn, what Jack Horner did in his corner, who the wondrous wise man was. The rhymes are printed in full, and the tales fill in their characters with warmth and a gentle sense of humour.
