The Chicago anthropologist Frederick Starr collected these riddles in 1908 from Ilocano boys of Union Province and from Bisayan, Pangasinan and other speakers. Each is given in the original language with an English rendering and its answer, arranged by subject from animals, betel and boats to candles, the body and the house, after an introduction on riddling in the islands.
