An Englishman named Lessingham is carried in a dream to the planet Mercury, where the heroic lords of Demonland, Juss, Goldry Bluszco, Spitfire and Brandoch Daha, take up a feud with King Gorice of Witchland. Sorcery in the iron tower of Carcë, a hippogriff, sea battles and an assault on the mountain Koshtra Pivrarcha follow, told in deliberately Elizabethan English.
Published in 1922 and admired by Tolkien, it remains a cornerstone of heroic fantasy for readers who love language as much as battle. Download the free EPUB.
