Socrates talks with the young Critobulus about how to manage an estate profitably, then recalls at length his conversations with Ischomachus, a gentleman farmer who explains how he trained his teenage bride to run the house, how he handles slaves and stewards, and why farming is the noblest of occupations. The Greek oikonomia meant household management, and that is the subject here.
One of the earliest Greek works on economics and a rare window on marriage and daily life in classical Athens. Download the free EPUB.
