India’s Problem, Krishna or Christ presents the views of John P. Jones, a Christian missionary who spent many years in India, on the religious life of the subcontinent and the prospects for Christianity there. The book surveys Hinduism and other Indian faiths, then argues for the missionary cause as Jones understood it.

Reflecting the evangelical and colonial assumptions of its period, the work frames the spiritual choices facing India in stark terms, as its title suggests. Jones draws on his experience of Indian society, customs, and religion to make his case to a Western readership. Modern readers will recognise the biases of the missionary outlook, yet the book remains a revealing document of late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Christian engagement with, and interpretation of, the religions of India.
