Godfrey Sweven was the pseudonym of John Macmillan Brown, a New Zealand academic who published Limanora, the Island of Progress in 1903 as a sequel to his earlier Riallaro. The novel is an ambitious utopian fantasy describing a remote island civilisation that has used science, selective breeding, and rigorous self-discipline to transcend ordinary human limitations. It is a vast, earnest, and sometimes strange work — more closely related to Wells’s speculative essays than to adventure fiction.

This free EPUB brings Sweven’s remarkable Antipodean utopian fantasy to any e-reader in a clean reformatted edition. Students of the utopian tradition in science fiction, and readers curious about the idealistic scientific imagination of the early 20th century, will find Limanora a genuinely unusual and historically significant text.
