F. T. Marinetti (1876–1944), founder of Italian Futurism, wrote Distruzione as an early long poem of violent energy and radical ambition — a howl against the past and a celebration of speed, force, and modernity that prefigures his famous 1909 Futurist Manifesto. As poetry it is incandescent and shocking, making it an important document in the history of the European avant-garde.
