Burbidge collected orchids and pitcher plants for Veitch’s nursery in Borneo, and brought back the giant Nepenthes rajah among others. The book is both a naturalist’s record of the forests and rivers and a vivid account of the coasts, the Sultanates and the collecting life itself.
